If you’ve never tried blueberry overnight oats before, they are basically a type of porridge made with rolled oats, milk (dairy or non-dairy), blueberries and other optional add-ins. The beauty of this breakfast dish is that it can be prepped ahead of time – simply mix everything together in a mason jar or bowl, pop it in the fridge and let it sit overnight. There are so many reasons to love blueberry overnight oats. They are:
– A great way to start your day: Oats are packed with fiber and nutrients that will give you sustained energy throughout the morning.
– A healthy alternative to sugary breakfast cereals: blueberry overnight oats are naturally sweetened with blueberries and contain minimal to no added sugar (if desired).
– A quick and easy breakfast option: as mentioned, this recipe can be made ahead of time so all you have to do in the morning is grab your jar (or bowl) and go. No cooking required!

The ingredients you’ll need for blueberry overnight oats
To make blueberry overnight oats, you’ll need:
– Rolled oats: You can use quick oats if you prefer, but I find that rolled oats work best in this recipe as they have a nicer texture.
– Blueberries: Fresh or frozen will work equally well here. If using frozen blueberries, there’s no need to thaw them first. Simply add them straight to the bowl or jar (or in this case – to the saucepan to make the compote/jam).
– Milk: I like to use organic 2% milk in this recipe, but any type of milk will work (dairy or non-dairy).
– Optional add-ins: This is where you can get creative! Some of my favorite add-ins are honey, cinnamon powder, chia seeds, flax seeds and granola.

– Use old-fashioned rolled oats instead of quick oats for a heartier texture.

– Feel free to experiment with different types of milk or sweeteners until you find a combination that you love.
